사랑니란
Wisdom teeth are the third molars at the very back of the mouth. Dentists call them the third molars; the Korean name "sarangni" refers to the age (around 19–21) when they typically emerge — "the age when one feels love." In English they are called "wisdom teeth" because they appear at the age of wisdom; in Chinese characters this is written as 智齒 (wisdom tooth).

Antibiotics
Take prescribed antibiotics on time to prevent infection. Follow your dentist's guidance.
Pain
Pain after extraction is part of normal healing. Take prescribed medication about an hour after the procedure. Absolutely no alcohol.
Swelling
Swelling is also normal healing. Apply ice packs for the first 48 hours — this is essential. After that, alternate ice packs with warm compresses. If swelling persists or you suddenly swell with a bad taste (pus), call the clinic immediately.
Bleeding
Light bleeding on the day of extraction and the next day is normal. If bleeding continues, apply a thin compress with about 15 minutes of pressure, repeating as needed. If bleeding does not stop, contact the clinic immediately.
Hygiene
Do not rinse for 3 hours after surgery. After that, warm saline rinses are OK — gently and carefully. After 24 hours, you may use a mouthwash (Betadine) — hold in mouth for 1 minute. No other mouthwashes are needed. Resume normal brushing and flossing the day after surgery on areas not affected.
Food
Avoid carbonated drinks (cola, soda), oxygenated drinks, and alcohol for at least 24 hours after extraction. Avoid smoking for at least 48 hours, ideally 72 hours. For the first week after extraction, eat soft or liquid foods. If chewing is necessary, use the opposite side. Absolutely no tough or hard foods. Maintain a nutritionally balanced diet and adequate hydration.
Rest
Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy work for the first 24 hours after extraction and get adequate rest.
Sutures
Sutures are typically black and removed within 7 days after surgery. Absorbable sutures are typically brown and dissolve naturally in 5–7 days — do not pull or stimulate them with fingers. Pink periodontal dressing on the surgical site is typically removed after 7 days.
